Is the Kampierstuhl a camp chair made out of wood?

Conversation with a customer who was interested in our Kampierstuhl project.

Customer :

Is the Kampierstuhl a camp chair made out of wood? And if so, why don’t you just call it camp chair?

Kampier:

We realized that the term Camping carries an image that we couldn’t associate to us. We love nature and like to be outdoors, but we can’t identify ourselfs with screeming colours and synthetic materials, which you find everywhere nowadays when you see people in nature. The camp chair in general, like our Kampierstuhl, is no new invention. Already in the 19th century people were using camp chairs for comfortable sitting outside in their recreation time. We enjoy the old photographs of camp sites integrating into nature. Natural fabrics in natural colours discreetly adapting with the landscape. Wood instead of aluminum, cotton and leather instead of polyacryl.

Customer :

You mean, the Kampierstuhl is suitable for using on travels in the outdoors?

Kampier:

Yes of course. This had been the original thought when we started with Kampier. A wooden camp chair, lightweight, foldable, from natural materials and good to take along.

Customer :

But then you didn’t want to leave it at that…

Kampier:

Well… we really like to wish for a change in the camping and leisure area. That especially the people that like to be in nature start thinking environmentally friendly in regard to equipment and clothing. It would be wonderful if we eventually could see more wooden camp chairs etc. in many places. But this isn’t to be expected in the near future…

Customer :

…and so you also see your chair indoors…?!

Kampier:

Oh yes, of course. This is one reason among others why we the Kampierstuhl wasn’t named camping chair stuhl. We are dealing with an old design from 1881 (Tripolina), which counts as the inspiration of the much more famous Butterfly Chair, which you can nowadays find in many living rooms. We think that our chair, with its high-quality oak strips, its precious stainless steel fittings and its beautiful fabrics for the seating fits very well into living quarters.
